With temperatures today at 90 degrees and high humidity, it’s safe to say we’re in full frizz fighting zone. Hope tried a Keratin treatment a couple of week ago, which falls in the “if nothing else works give this a try” category:
It took all the curl out of my hair. Even though I can still use a curling iron if I want waves, I’ve been wearing it straight because it’s a welcome change. It cuts down on the drying time which is a big advantage. Unfortunately my hair still needs styling, I don’t like the way my hair looks if I let it dry naturally, it’s a little stringy and the ends still have some frizz.
The biggest drawbacks were the perm smell which totally grossed out my fam; and the price which ranges from $250 to $400 depending on the length of your hair. Keratin treatments are not supposed to damage your hair the way Japanese straightening treatments do or traditional relaxers do by using harsh chemicals and stripping your hair. Instead it adds a conditioning layer to your hair that lasts from six weeks to four months depending on how often you wash your hair. Gradually you wash away the Keratin like you would hair color. Any damage to my hair remains to be seen, for now it is smooth and even stays frizz free when I’m out in the elements. Here’s a picture of me (on right) with Lauren on our recent girls trip:
