On my trip to Arizona, I exercised, but didn't stick to my diet!
How are you doing with those New Year’s Resolutions? If you’re like the average Brit, you probably already gave up on them. According to the Daily Mail, most people break their resolutions on January 9—three weeks ago!
I admittedly already had a lapse on my diet resolutions on my recent trip to Arizona, though I did at least make it to yoga! To keep up with my good intentions all year long, I’ve set a few rules for myself. I’m following what I call the 4-3-2 plan:
4 is the number of times I plan on hitting the gym weekly
3 is the night per week I can drink alcohol (almost always wine)
2 is the number of desserts or sweet treats I can have in a week
While losing the 5 pounds of holiday/winter weight I put on is definitely a motivator, in the meantime, I can already tell that I’ve got more energy, I’m in a better mood and my skin is looking clearer. That last one is an unexpected bonus, though it shouldn’t be too surprising.
Exercise increases your circulation and I’m a firm believer in the idea that sweating helps you get rid of toxins—just be sure to pack some facial wipes in your gym bag so you can wash your face after your workout. As for the booze, well, it can dilate your capillaries leaving your skin looking redder—a big risk for a fair-skinned gal like me. Not to mention that on nights when I drink, I’m often tempted to skip my skincare routine (usually I don’t. But flossing is another story!). As for the sugar, I was happy to hear that chocolate doesn’t directly cause acne, but we’re not entirely off the hook. Sugar can cause your blood sugar to rise, which increase your insulin levels which in turn increases hormones that cause acne, according to Allure, healthy skin really does start from the outside in.

To help improve my skin on the outside, I’ll be using Simple Skincare products. The sensitive skincare line is the number one skincare range in the U.K. and launches stateside in February. I’m honored to announce that I am a Simple ambassador for 2012! I’ll be sharing my favorite products and helpful tips about caring for sensitive skin all year long.
Back to my resolutions: When (not if!) I meet my 4-3-2 plan goals through the end of March, I will buy myself a little reward. I’m thinking a Missoni scarf!
How about you guys? How are you doing on your resolutions?

UPDATE:
I’ve had a few questions about my self-created 4-3-2 plan:
Does a single glass of wine at dinner count?
Yes! The point of the plan is to really enjoy my indulgences, which means that I don’t get to have them every day.
Can I trade a drinking day for a dessert day and vice versa?
I have to admit, I have done this as an out. Early on, with the Super Bowl and Fashion Week, I was cocktailing on Sunday, which made for a long, dry week. As an out, I did drink an extra day during the week at the expense of a dessert day. It’s a good thing I’m the one who made up this plan and can create my own rules!
