Peek Inside Inslee Copeland’s Carry On

Inslee Copeland

Inslee Copeland knows more than most about the dangers of sun exposure and with my own recent skin cancer scare, she’s inspired me to be ever diligent about protecting myself from the sun.  Inslee’s frustration at finding good sun protection drove her to develop Bloxsun, a collection of scarves and gloves which are stylish and lightweight; but have the highest UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) available.

We’ve made Inslee is an honorary JSG,  even as a child she was a seasoned, and well dressed, traveler:

“Growing up with a father who was a Pan Am pilot, we traveled quite a bit. From those days, it was mandatory for all employees and families traveling on a pass to dress properly. Today, when I fly, I tend to dress nicely out of habit. I know it’s popular to go comfy and casual – even wear one’s pajamas, but I carry on the tradition of my family and tend to dress up a bit more. I stick out like a sore thumb, I know!”

We asked Inslee for a peek inside her carry on.

Let’s start with what kind of carry on bag do you use?

Since I am such a color person – I gravitate towards all things bright. I think Furla makes fabulous bright colored bags. My go-to tote right now is a bright green Furla moc-crock tote. It’s a great size – not too big, not too small. Otherwise, I carry my old vintage Pan Am bag from the days my father flew for the late, great airline. It’s a sure-fire conversation piece if anything!

What sort of wrap, jacket or blanket do you bring on board?

I really hate being cold so I always have an extra- large cashmere pashmina for warmth or one of my Bloxsun Sun Scarves does the trick as well. It has to be a neutral color that can work with what else I have packed and often times becomes an integral part of my wardrobe on the go.

Do you pack your own snacks?

Calories don’t count in the air, right? I always choose to believe that so I wouldn’t be surprised if some form of serious chocolate is found in my carry on! Otherwise I do pack snacks for the long haul. Protein bars are always easy, almond packs, an apple and always, always I buy a large bottle of water after security!

Magazines, books, music?

I am a huge reader and never knowing what I will be in the mood to read, I pack several of books and magazines. From work-oriented trade magazines and books to trash novels hidden on my iPad, I run the gamut on material.

Do you have a must-have beauty product?

Wouldn’t dream of going on an airplane without my cosmetic pouch of necessities – Elizabeth Arden’s uber 8 Hour Cream, Nars lip gloss, my Teamine undereye soothing cream (a must for us gals over 40) and my travel size Prada perfume lotion.

Which of your products do you take with you to each destination? Is it different depending on whether it’s a warm or cool climate?

If I am going to a sunny destination, I always have extra Bloxsun Sun Scarves in more colors and extra sun screen. If I am traveling to the cold, I carry enough lip moisturizer to open up a shop. I get chapped lips quickly. Every pocket has another one just in case!
