We recently stayed at the Blue Diamond Resort on the Riviera Maya in Mexico. It was our first time choosing to stay at an all-inclusive and we were a little nervous: would the food be any good? Would we be bored staying at the same place for all four nights? But after reading numerous reviews on TripAdvisor, we decided to go for it. Here are the top things we loved about the Blue Diamond Resort—and what could be better.
1. Gorgeous Rooms and Public Areas
The Blue Diamond was formerly the Mandarin Oriental, so we had high hopes for the physical property itself. It definitely did not disappoint. The lobby is enchanting

The rooms are huge and sophisticated in their decor, as shown top.
And there are six art installations on the property that make for a fun tour.

2. Lovely Pool
The pool and smaller infinity lap pool overlook the Gulf of Mexico. We were able to snag a free cabana every morning which made for relaxed days by the pool. The water was sandy looking, but felt amazing when we ventured in.

3. Top notch service
From the check-in staff, to the cleaning staff to the bartenders and waiters, everyone is on their game at the Blue Diamond.
4. Breakfast
By far, breakfast was the best meal of the day, especially after we were tipped off by a honeymooning couple to order lattes with a shot of espresso on the side. We also liked the fresh juices, tropical fruit plate, croissants and made to order omelets.
What could be better: The food.
As we anticipated for the TripAdvisor reviews, the food is a little lackluster. There are two restaurants open for dinner and both seem to try too hard.

All in all, we were very happy with our choice. It was pretty much what we expected, a relaxing vacation in a beautiful property with no massive bill at the end for bottomless margaritas!
